Interest in the bespoke software package from Fix Auto Stoke-on-Trent has been growing rapidly. The Management Information Console (MIC) provides paperless, efficient management of the vehicle repair process and offers big savings on workplace hours, office stationery and consumables. The system also addresses a requirement from insurers and work providers to rely less on site inspections, in favour of more image inspection.

Fix Auto Stoke-on-Trent director Dave Willett says that MIC was built on a simple idea.“PC users set up folders, which they fill with images and documents. So they’re are effectively generating a basic document folder structure to allow them to store, retrieve and expire content easily.

“MIC takes this concept and scales it up. The technology is designed from the ground-up to assist bodyshops seeking to manage the creation, storage, retrieval and expiry of information stored as documents. Unlike a file structure on your PC, MIC revolves around a centralised repository that manages the storage of any type of information that could be of value to an organisation, whilst also protecting its loss.”

Originally launched around 2007, MIC conforms to BS 10125.All the standard’s documentation is fully incorporated into the system.

MIC minimises administration and gives a more transparent feel to the repair process, according to Dave.“This allows customers, fleet operators and work providers to track their repairs, view images and inspect documentation online.A fully functional online audit facility is currently utilised which is both effective and secure,” he explains.

It was this simplicity of use and the obvious efficiency savings that led
MIC to be sold on licence to several other bodyshops around the country, including other Fix Auto operations in Cardiff, Swansea, Pontypridd and Manchester East. Steve Peart, MD of Fix Auto Cardiff was enthusiastic about MIC.“It has totally transformed our operation. If we went back to how we were before we used it, it would seriously cost us in both monetary terms and efficiency.”

Innovations often come from within the network, according to Ian Pugh of Fix Auto UK. “MIC is a prime demonstration of the wealth of talent that we have,” he said. “This – like the Fix Auto Forum – is a piece of software created by a bodyshop who’s willing to share the great idea that they’ve brought to life.”
